What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial dental part which interfaces directly with the supporting bone or gum of the jaw in order to serve as a bridge, a crown or a dental implant. The artificial tooth-colored piece serves as a temporary tooth for the permanent tooth replacement. As of now there are two types of implants available for permanent teeth replacement; one is the denture and the other is the bridge. With the denture a denture implant can be made from the patient’s natural tooth. The dentist implants the denture and inserts the replacement tooth into the natural teeth. However, with a bridge, the dentist implants a single permanent tooth into the dental socket.Have a look at Craig W Conrow DDS – Palm Desert Dental Implants for more info on this.

As said, dentures and bridges had two varieties, one is removable. There are dentures that are permanently fixed to the dentures socket or the oral bone by cementing them to the dentures shell or the gums. This type of removable or fixed denture will not fall out when you bite on something or your teeth grinding. On the other hand, if you wear a removable denture then this denture will fall out when you take a big bite.

The other type of denture or bridge is the fixed bridge which is fixed directly to the gum tissue. However, this bridge will fall off if you lose a tooth. The removable bridge is made from your teeth or gums. The denture and the fixed bridge are two types of dental implants for permanent tooth replacement. These implants are widely used for replacement of missing teeth in the adult population. They can be considered as a cost effective alternative to dentures and bridges.
